Red Herring
Red Herring was Firestone Racing's Mastermind of the horse world. Given as a gift from none other than Ripley Marsh, the chestnut stallion was a gift sent from Heaven. Most know Red Herring as the horse who never backed down from the leaders, always giving them a hard time and always managed to stir up some trouble in the front of the field.
As a youngster with unknown lines racing for Witch Creek, Red had managed to place in all of his juvenile races except for one. He broke his maiden on his first try and quickly swept up the title of winning the Magic Millions Colts Dirt his second time out. Red won six races out of fourteen in his juvenile career and managed to fall short to long time enemy, Nightshade, in a tough six horse field.
Following his loss in the Breeders Cup, Red started off his classic season with a first place finish in the Middlient Derby. It only went up from there, with 7 wins, six seconds and five thirds. He gobbled up his opponents in the Hollywood Gold Cup, the Southwest Stakes and the ever known Bank On Silver Memorial Stakes. Unfortunately, Y13 was not Red's year in the Breeders Cup, which he went into as the underdog and unfortunately was the only race he placed out of the money. It was after year thirteen that the horse bounced back and made his way over to Firestone.
Red was able to tough out Y14 against the season's toughest batch of older horses and racked up six wins, four places, eight shows and four races out of the money. Red improved tons to win the Winter Dawn Treader Cup, a race so tough and prestigious anyone would be lucky to win such a thing. He swept by his opponents in races such as the Stable Face Off, Winter Cup, Dawn Treader Cup, and won The Honorable Stakes for the second year in a row.
Red Herring finished 91% in the money, with only 6 races out in his entire career. He was known as the horse that was the bane of a front runner's existence, and there is no lie in that statement. Red is a horse with lots of charisma and spunk, which he carried to the track. His name is well-known around the tracks and inducting him into the Hall of Fame will solidify his legacy on the track.
